Tubular breasts are a congenital anomaly characterized by a narrow base and elongated breast development, resulting in a tubular appearance. While the problem is mainly aesthetic, it also has significant psychological and social implications for young teenagers who may feel embarrassed about their bodies and have low self-confidence.
The breast deformity’s severity can vary and affect one or both breasts.
Surgical reconstruction of tubular breasts is a complex procedure that requires tissue gland modification, silicone implant placement, and reduction of the nipple-areolar complex. Often, the intervention of the mammary glands is also necessary to achieve the desired shape. The technique chosen each time may involve the placement of a prosthesis in one breast in combination with mastopexy or reduction in the other, while other times, it is necessary to place prostheses in both breasts.
